Construction is underway for a new 200 x
85 ice rink in Union New Jersey
Mr. Ken Anderson of Union Sports Arena LLC indicated
that his management team will be installing a premier facility
to accommodate a growing need for ice time in the New Jersey
area. The complex will include a comprehensive hockey program
(i.e., house leagues, men‘s leagues, youth hockey and learn
to play hockey programs). Figure skating and public skating
will also be hosted.
The complex is being retrofitted into an existing
building, which was previously a tennis facility. The ice system
is being supplied by Burley’s Rink Supply (BRS) of Johnstown,
PA. BRS will be installing their high performance TurboChiller
refrigeration system, along with a unique “Curbless” dasherboard
system, which enables the entire ice system to be installed
directly atop of the existing concrete floor without the need
for a separate concrete curb. John Burley, president of BRS,
indicated that the “Curbless” system is ideal for retrofits
over concrete floors because it eliminates the cost and construction
time required of installing a separate concrete curbing while
still permitting the installation of a complete sub-soil heating
system and rink-floor insulation membrane. More can be learned
about BRS products at their web site of www.burleys.com
A new entity with some reliable old names from the rink business
has also taken a leadership position in spear heading this project.
Jim McKain and Wayne Aussem of the Newly formed Entity of North
American Ice was engaged by Mr. Anderson to help guide his project
through the design phase. North American Ice was formed to provide
consulting and management to the arena industry. North American
Ice’s services are widespread from initial feasibility studies,
to consulting for management and/or construction activities.
